The following links and resources are here to provide you with access to information regarding our local, regional and national climate.  We continue to update this page with more information and products, so check back often. Need to analyze or visualize weather and climate data for Mississippi?

  • A great place to start is looking for almost any climate data (ocean sciences, specific datasets, etc.) is the National Centers for Environmental Information. Here you can find monthly climate reports, archived weather data regarding all severe weather, and other related datasets
  • Need to know "average" conditions across Mississippi? Check out the most recent (1981-2010) monthly climate normals for stations across the state
  • The Mississippi Automated Resource Information System (MARIS) provides GIS, mapping, education and service data
  • To locate a weather station at a given location in Mississippi regarding precipitation, temperature and other related data, check out Mississippi State University’s Extension Service
  • Here you can find data from personal and home weather stations
  • To look at temperature, precipitation, and even drought indices over time, we recommend using NOAA’s Climate at a Glance Tool. This allows you to select your area, time frame, and measured variable. The data will be displayed in both a chart as well as a graph.
  • NOAA’s Mississippi Storm Event database is a useful tool that allows the user to select various types of severe weather and observe the selected variable over time. County, property damages and deaths are also displayed along with the information.
  • The Southeast Regional Climate Center NOWData tool is popular among broadcasters in the meteorology department here at Mississippi State, as well as those working in the field. This tool allows you to select an area and it will display almanac data, climatology, and accumulation graphs to simply name a few tools. 

Need specialized data or products?

  • The U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit provides a lot of useful tools that are relevant to Mississippi, such as the Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Land Use, Biopower Atlas, Carbon Storage in Forests, U.S. Drought Portal, Tick Monitors, Urban Tree Canopy Assessment and Virtual Beaches
  • The Southern U.S. Drought Tool provides information on drought severity, as well as how much rain would be needed to get out of a drought
  • The SCIPP Tool Page provides several packages related to the Southeast U.S. States as the tools were formulated by NOAA and the Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program. There are various packages available including the Storm Surge and Climate Trend tools.
  • For an in depth look at hurricane data, the North Carolina State Climate Office has a very thorough database
  • The North Carolina State Climate Office has also developed a Drought Trigger Tool, which although it is defaulted to the state of North Carolina, it can be selected to view and analyze Mississippi. The user can add layers such as SPI, AHPS and COOP station data onto the graph.
  • The United Nations also as a page dedicated to various tools and products needed for climate resources
  • The United States Environmental Protection Agency offers multiple tools and region-specific products regarding climate literacy and adaptability
